Spijker Holding changes company name to Smartwares

02 Jan 2012

Spijker Holding, a group of leading suppliers of consumer products, starts the year with a name change. In order to reflect the company's ongoing strategy more closely, the company has re-branded as Smartwares Home Essentials.

Smartwares offers smart and essential products for use around the house such as domestic cleaning products, household appliances, DIY, Home Security and audio/video. To further strengthen its position Smartwares has recently acquired Shop Service Center (SSC).
This non-food wholesaler provides car accessories and giftwares to petrol stations and has an annual turnover of 10 million euro. Smartwares has an annual turnover of over 350 million euro.

Vincent Braams, CEO of Smartwares comments: "This acquisition coincides with our name change from Spijker Holding to Smartwares. In fact, the integration of Shop Service Center is a perfect illustration of what Smartwares is about. Our new name has been designed to convey that we are a leading provider of smart, good and fun non-food products that consumers want to have. There is a great demand for this – that is why it is important we can now reach these consumers via petrol stations too. With this acquisition we strengthen our leading position in Europe”
Jacques Brulot (SSC) is also very pleased with this sale. "We are confident that this transaction for both our non-food and prepaid customers is a positive development. Moreover, this sale fits in SSC’s strategy to further focus on the expansion of its prepaid (telecommunication) activities. SSC is a leading company when it comes to prepaid products in the Netherlands and sees very good growth opportunities in the various prepaid markets.

Through four divisions, Smartwares now delivers products to all major retail chains across Europe. This concerns products in the field of Consumer Care (cleaning, fashion, household items), Light & Safety (light fixtures, smoke detectors), Decoration & Connectivity (paint brushes, light switches, cabling) and Lifestyle (audio/video, outdoor).
